Full description of the tool
MultilingualPress offers several settings available as modules.
Title in alternative language
This enables the "Alternate language title" feature. If you check this box, a field for the alternative language title will appear on the MultilingualPress settings page for the website in question. This will be displayed in the Admin menu in place of the website title that was defined when the site was created.
Redirect
It activates the automatic language redirection function. When this module is activated, a new tab "Redirection" will be activated. Also, when this module is enabled, on the MultilingualPress settings page of the subsite (available when creating or editing a new subsite), two fields are available. The first is to enable automatic language redirection, the second is to specify whether the current subsite should be used as a fallback for the root language set.
Types of publications that can be translated
All content types (publication types) are displayed here for which MultilingualPress can create a language relationship. Select the type of your choice. The corresponding meta boxes will only be available for this publication type when editing. For example, if you select only publications, you will only be able to link content in different languages for publications.
Translatable taxonomies
Like the translatable publication types, but for taxonomies. Taxonomies include for example categories or tags.
QuickLinks
This tab is only activated when the associated option module is checked in the Modules tab. Here, four radio buttons allow you to select the position of your quick links linked to the publication content. Links to the translation will only be available if content exists in the associated linked translation publication.
Cache
These options allow you to selectively enable or disable the MultilingualPress cache components. The cache helps to improve the performance of the plugin. But if there is a conflict with the server cache and/or other plugins, it is possible to select and disable some or all components.
Our opinion
Multilingual Press is a very popular plugin for many developers and website owners. It is based on a multi-site approach. As a reminder, it should be noted that there are two methods to manage multiple languages: within one site, or across multiple sites. In the first case, different language versions of the website are located on the same domain. In the second case, the user has his own site (corresponding to a domain) for each language, thus a network of sites.
Of course, if a multisite system is not used to translate the website, it is recommended to opt for other WordPress plugins. Multilingual Press handles 174 languages.
After installing Multilingual Press, the plugin automatically generates translated versions of publications and pages in the specified language. This is quite convenient since it allows you to translate the website into several languages instantly or almost instantly, but it should be remembered that the translation will not be as perfect as the one done by a human.
It is important to remember that MultilingualPress also offers a paid version: MultilingualPress Pro. This version allows you to have access to the support and updates of the plugin.
