After having shown you how to create an auto-entrepreneur website in a previous article, we explain in this one the steps to follow to obtain a K-bis extract when you are an auto-entrepreneur.
To obtain this document, there are certain administrative steps to be taken and they are specific to the type of auto-enterprise you have.
The k-bis extract and the k-extract: two confused concepts
These are two documents that are very often confused. The difference is simple. The K extract only concerns micro-entrepreneurs registered with the RCS (Registre du Commerce et des Sociétés). It can therefore only be requested by entrepreneurs who have a company in their own name.
The K-bis extract concerns other types of companies such as the Limited Liability Company, the SAS, the EURL, etc.
The content of the K-bis extracts
The k-bis extract is an official document that contains all the information necessary to identify a company registered in the RCS.
As a micro-entrepreneur, your K-bis extract must have the following details:
- the date of creation of your micro-enterprise,
- your registration in the Register,
- the field of business activity carried out (NAF code) in your micro-enterprise,
- your SIREN number,
- the address where your organisation is based,
- your personal information such as name, date of birth, municipality of birth and nationality.
What is the purpose of a K-bis extract?
It is recommended that all auto-entrepreneurs registered with the Registre du Commerce et des Sociétés apply for the K-bis extract. The sooner the better.
This document is important because it may be required in several cases, such as :
- in your banking procedures: if you want to open a business bank account, apply for a loan or many others;
- in registering for professional indemnity insurance;
- in signing a major contract with your suppliers or
- by customers before signing a quotation or purchasing the material.
There is therefore no doubt that the K-bis extract for auto-entrepreneurs is a public document. It is the official and legal document to prove the registration of your micro-enterprise with the RCS.
The K-bis extract for micro-entrepreneurs is important to prove the legal existence of your company to public institutions, suppliers and of course customers. When you are asked for this document, it is imperative that it is less than 3 months old. After this period, it is considered invalid.
It is therefore an authentic act issued by the clerk of the commercial court. It is in a way the identity card of companies. Anyone can request this document. The only condition is that you must be registered in the Trade and Companies Register (RCS).
The composition of the K-bis auto-entrepreneur extract
The K-bis extract of the auto-entrepreneur is made up of several pieces of information saved at the Trade and Companies Register which are :
- The name of the clerk of the commercial court who signed the registration of the company concerned,
- The company name,
- The sign and logo,
- The SIREN number,
- The NAF or APE code,
- The legal form of the company (SA, SARL, SCI, GIE, etc.),
- The price and currency of the company's capital,
- The address of the head office and of the principal place of business and secondary establishments in the European area,
- The age of the company and the length of its existence,
- The date of the constitution,
- The detailed activity of the company,
- The name of the company's website(s),
- The positions, nationalities and addresses, full names, date and place of birth of the manager, auditors and directors,
- The Reference of compulsory authorisations for professions that are regulated.
The cost of the auto-entrepreneur k-bis extract
Any manager of a micro-enterprise can register for a k-bis extract free of charge online. However, the issuance of this legal document is not free of charge, even online. In fact, there is a charge for this procedure, except that the cost is lower.

It is therefore clear that even though this document is subject to a fee, the price is still affordable.
How do I get a K-bis extract?
Whether you are a salaried or non-salaried auto-entrepreneur, if you work in the commercial or craft sector, you are obliged to register in order to obtain your k-bis extract. The procedure depends on your field of activity.
For a commercial self-employed business
You are required to register your micro-business with the Trade and Companies Register (RCS). This is done at the Centre de Formalités des Entreprises(CFE) of your Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
For a self-employed craft business
You can register your company not only with the Répertoire des Métiers(RM), but also with the CFE of your Chambre des Métiers et de l'Artisanat.
To ensure that you meet the deadlines, it is imperative that you submit your application for a declaration of micro-enterprise during the month preceding the start of your activity at the earliest, and within 15 days following this date at the latest.
How to obtain your k-bis extract
The procedure for obtaining the k-bis extract differs depending on whether you have already started your business or not.
If your micro-enterprise has not yet been created
You must put together your application for an auto-entrepreneur k-bis extract with the following documents:
- a P0 micro-entrepreneur form,
- a copy of a document that identifies you,
- your proof of address,
- a declaration on honour of no criminal conviction.
Once you have compiled the file, you must submit it or send it to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the area of your self-employed business.
If your micro-enterprise already exists
If you have already set up your own business, you have two alternatives.
- In person: you must go to the Registry of the Commercial Court.
- Online: you must go directly to the infogreffe website to submit your request for a k-bis extract.
Modification of a K-bis extract
The law requires that you always make sure that you update your K-bis excerpt as and when required. This is because this document quickly provides information about the administrative and financial situation of your company.
The modification of your K-bis extract may be necessary in several cases, such as :
- The change of address of your registered office,
- The change of the company's name,
- The change of a self-employed manager,
- The initiation of collective proceedings,
- The modification of the company's capital or of one of its components,
- The evolution of the legal status of the company.
For greater security in the management of your business, it is essential to make the above changes
- before signing a new contract with another company,
- before opening a new bank account on behalf of the company;
- before applying for a new tender.
Penalties for not having a K-bis extract for auto-entrepreneurs
If it turns out that your micro-enterprise is not registered, and that you therefore do not yet have a k-bis extract, you may be ordered to pay penalty payments until you regularise your situation.
In addition, the judge responsible for supervising the Company Trade Register can decide to register your micro-business by force. This is also the law.
If the omission of registration is voluntary, you can be sentenced to 3 years' imprisonment and a fine of €45,000 for the offence of concealed work. In principle, the body that finds this type of offence during inspections is the URSSAF.
